AT&T and Nokia Win Patent Infringement Lawsuit

In August 2021, Finesse Wireless LLC filed a lawsuit against AT&T Mobility in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that AT&T had infringed two patents related to reducing wireless signal interference. Nokia, which designed and manufactured the base stations used in AT&T’s network, intervened in the case and contested Finesse’s claims, arguing that its equipment did not infringe the asserted patents.

In 2023, a jury found in favor of Finesse and awarded $166.3 million in damages against AT&T.

However, on September 24, 2025, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that AT&T’s use of Nokia-manufactured base stations in its 4G LTE and 5G networks did not infringe Finesse’s patents. The court vacated the earlier $166.3 million judgment.
